I ve got an engine for you. Its an A12 but since WE dont know where you are. .....
You can bolt an A15 to your gear box with some slight mods.
Good luck to ya!

Locked diffs are illegal and dangerous on the open road in NZ and Hastings doesn't need any more boy racer bad press and tragedy: Too young.Do you know why the A12 is running on 3 cylinders? You may find it is a simple fix and an A 12 that is running well is a good match for the 1200. The best engine for a power upgrade for you is an A15 out of a ZX Sunny. Forget the 5 speed as you are going to blow it with the way you plan to drive. It's cheaper to replace the 4 speed as needed.

An A15 isn't going to spin 2nd gear with a locked differential ... you need more torque, and with it, you'll need a bigger, stronger differential.

Dunno dd - standard A15's can do that in NZ and Aus. Of course we're talking R13 165 tyres. I haven't personally done this in the US but I can't see why not. It is abusing the power train but it can be done.

I stand corrected about the tire spinning.
I had a stock A15 in a 1200, and broke the stock diff ... twice. And that was with not abusing it.

My old coupe had a locker with a standard a12, hell that would spin up in second no worries, pushed like buggery through corners though. I was young, in the past ive driven too fast on public roads, i guess ive been lucky, many people havent been so lucky. Just respect the car, build it up nicely, take it to track days, improve your time on every outing, look after it and it will do the same for you. Seriously dont be a dumb arse, lockers are super dangerous on the road especially in the wrong hands, you'll drive hard, do some unco heel-toe, compression lock into a corner, loose control because you've got no skill to ride it out because its your first car, and your seats too far back and you've got your new sick 8 inch steering wheel. Then you'll ruin someones life when you run up over the footpath, they'll become a paraplegic, but you'll be fine, just have to live with what you've done and the fact your another wannabe racer on the road. Please, look after the car or buy a hyundai excel or something, leave the datsuns for people who respect them.
