diff help please
Guest_
have been reading the tech section, in my limited budget i wont pay for a h165 (prices dont justify it for me) so will look at a h150 set up for my coupe (might go a15 soon and h145 wont cut it too long).

Just wonder ing abot the tail shaft length from the 120y. the tech section says may be about 20mm longer for the 120y one, but is it that big a deal or can the diff be mounted just off center for 20mm.
Dnot want to fork out for tail shaft mods (might as well pay for a h165) so can the 120y shaft be used or can the 1200 one be used with no mods?
Also are the mounting points different for the BW diff (had one years ago but dont remeber) into a coupe or can the 1200 base paltes and shackles be used.

Help anyone.

I'd go for the 120Y or Corolla borg warner diff instead. far stronger than a H150 and dirt cheap. try a search for info - its all here somewhere

mik id leave the h145

if it aint broke dont fix it..

ive seen a ca coupe pull 13.4 with an open h145.

and also saw a ca wagon with a locked h145 and he said it was holding up ok???

im not saying that theyre bullet proof and that they should be used with ca's

but surely it'd hold the a15

Avoid the 'shock loads' & the H145 should hold up for quite a while.

its not like im doing standstills or burnouts but if i see a nice bit of windy road ahead... and my right foot gets that twitch, i dont want to be thinking in the back of my head (is this the day the diff goes bang).

The 120y and corolla type Borg warner is still a h150 i understand, and have read the tech section but still have those 2 unanswered questions...(dont want yes no answers, a bit of depth would be nice)

1. Is the diff going to bolt in with no mods to the mounting points on the coupe rear end.

2. is the 120y drive shaft ok to use? If its 20mm longer or shorter it should no make much of a difference, just mount the diff 10 or 20 mm different on the rear end.

they are completely different diffs made by different companies in different countries. The BW is alot larger and stronger in both the centre and axles. Try a search for borgwarner or 120Y diff - its been explained countless times before.

My A15 is bored out to 1600 and I still am driving on the same H145 after 5 years, you likely wont blow it through normal driving even giving it heaps, its dropping the clutch at 6000 rpm that will make it go bang.
