getting it engineered will be very hard and you will need custom crossmembers and trans tunnel, other than that i say go for it!

not in NSW youll get it engineered....1.8 litre turbo is biggest capacity thats why people go for the CA18DET.
Maddat site does your bolt in conversion kits...lay aside $10k for a conversion, thats with a stock turbo CA.
Do a search and youll find a wealth of info....
by the way if you cant do it yourself that is if you want to get you local mechanic-friend to do it triple the price.

hey man, yeah im down here in tassie, so gettn parts and gettn it engerneerd will b a bit harder than if i was on the mainland, inbetween myself and me old man i reckon we can get most of the work done, both bein mechanics, i was lookn at some of the other posts and saw a pink datto wit a sr20 in it, there was a pretty noticable intercooler on the front of it, is there any way of gettn around that? not havin to cut the hell out of me ute wld b the 1st option, and plus it keeps the unwanted cops away, and ive also herd that the fire wall needs to b moved back somethn like 3'' ??? is that true?

Well if your ready for a heap of head aches go for it. I am in the middle of the conversion although I am only running the N/A sr20. Have had to get a Custom Trans tunnel made, Custom Cross members engine mounts. have also had a custom tail shaft made as well. its back in the shop at the moment getting the hydralic clutch conversion done. The front section were the hump is for the radiator needs to be cut out. new fuel pumps and fuel lines to install. water outlet neck needs to be cut and re welded to a different angle. The list goes on. Engineering will be a problem with the largest capacity turbo being a CA. You can how ever install the SR20 N/A get it engineered then do a turbo conversion and all the engine numbers will match the engineers report hahaha

Oh You also have to upgrade the brakes to a minimum of 120y disks and have an operating demister.

Is that right , you can install an SR20 into a 1200 and the engineer will pass it with 120Y brakes?
Whats his number?

Hey if you want to do the turbo without the intercooler but have inlet temps way down, I suggest you give member datman55 a PM about his water cooling kits.
He has a Sunny Race car with FJ20 turbo.
He had 189rwhp with intercooler and water inj. He then took the intercooler off and saved 6kg and gain 2psi boost as well as 40rwhp. Good way to go!!!.
it saves space time money AND increases HP!!
BTW he would have heaps more but he runs a 32 mm inlet restrictor to the turbo...thats rules for the type of racing he is in.
For the street I would do an SR20 N/A conversion... and keep it stock. You will still clobber most cars on the road and would be a good step to the turbo conversion.
A totally stock SR20 will deliver the same HP and more torque than a full - house A series.
and much cheaper and it isnt stressing the engine at all.

On this comment...dont just put adequate brakes in...put the best brakes you can install...nothing like good brakes on a well handling car...power is really secondary......
spend your money on this first you will get much better enjoyment out of your car and learn how to drive as well.

Hey datto boy,
forget all this new fangled engine talk!!
Before dog160 jumps in, I say bang a turbo on the A14. it will go as good as you will need and eeeeveryone has a C18 If you mist have fuel inj. then go with the inj perfection route and turbo on top.
OR best of all .... a couple of webers on a well built A series - hear the sound of music
Cheers
