Is the idle air bypass still fitted? (Top of the intake manifold, middle)

Have any of the tubes been blocked? Mud wasp etc?

If it has been removed, just bump the idle up. There is adjustment available on the throttle stop.

my tip would be a vaccum leak somewhere... piping, inlet manifold, hoses something like that. the factory computer needs to know how much air is going in and judges it a lot off the AFM, so if there is a leak between there and the motor it won't idle (or run) properly. a clean AFM is always a good thing too.

LAG,
a vaccume leak was my first thought too. i thought i would test it so i unscrewed the air con idle up solinoid and covered it with my finger, and started the engine. i then lifted my finger a tiny amount to lat some airin, not much at all, actually hardly any. the leak made a massive amount of noise and the engine died completly. so this makes me think it aint a vaccume leak. i will clean the AFM tomorrow. i do this with a cotton wool bud and metho don't you?
Thanks Elliott
