This, basicly, is the truck equivalent of the Datsun 1600, which has a factory designation of P510. The P signifies the basic size of the vehicle & from the 510 onwards they came with an L series engine. The P is usually not used, so the car is known all over the world as simply a 510. [five one oh, in factory parlance i'm told]
The 5 means that it is the fifth new model in this line of cars
The 10 means it is a passenger model, however, commercial models [trucks] that are based on the passenger car will carry a 20 suffix. So the prime truck model would be a 520.
Subvariants of the prime truck model, say, with longer wheelbase, or other significant feature were designated with a change in the last character. I don't know what was what, but your 521 is a specific subvariant of the 520.
It would seem that you truck is fitted with the older J series engine, which would be what the J in the engine number would mean. At 1299cc, it would be a J13 engine. If I am not mistaken, these engines are based on the old, 50's era Austin A40 engine, however those clever Datsun engineers fixed all the faults that the Brits somehow never could & they proved to be good reliable powerplants.
The wheelbase is the [nominal] distance from the center of the front axle to the center of the rear axle, when unloaded & with the wheels in the straight ahead position.
The rest is self explanatory.
I had not realised that the 520 series was still in production as late as '76.
