Just wondering how many if any has A/C installed on their Datsuns as with 97degree weather here in SoCal the last 2 weeks it's killing me not having one...

How hard is it when the time comes to swap an engne with all A/C intact to the 1200??? is it doable???

there's a few 210's that came with factory AC.

you could swap it over, but you probably won't like driving with the AC on, it'll probably eat lots of power on that little engine.

I think i'm going to get roof scoops or a cool suit.

I've got A/C in my wife's ute. It's an internally bone stock A12 with a gazillion miles on it and enough blowby coming throught the breather it could double as a compressor. The stock carb didn't keep up with the blowby at idle so I bolted some solexes that I had to overjet. The A/C works good, even on this pathetic engine, but power is effected quite noticably. With the sidedrafts though, I'd say with the A/C on, it's like driving an A12 with a stock carb. The only downside to my setup is the small condensor... need to upgrade for more effeciency.

The A series engine from 1974 onwards was designed to take an aircon compressor & B310 models were marketed with factory air.
If I remember rightly, you have an A14 in your 1200 so you are set to go.
Find yourself a junk aircon equiped model 210 [B310] & remove ALL of the aircon parts that you can get, including the front pulley on the engine.
You will not be able to use the evaporator unit & will probably need to buy an aftematket under-dash unit, but the compressor assembly, it's mountings, & drive will fit your engine, & you might even be able to use the condenser if you're lucky.
A good aircon shop can make new hoses & pipes as required, & even supply a new condenser if necessary.
Thats the beauty of our Datsuns. A little knowledge of what other models had, a little scrounging & a little cash outlay & you're on your way in aircon luxury.

Good luck

Even the earlier engines (A10 and A12) can take an A/C compressor, it was a dealer option.

Details and pics are here: 1200 aircon

I have aircon in my 85 ute (aftermarket).

Like most old aircons, it needs re-gassing with old gas.

As a side note - someone told me that BOC gasses sell and equivalent to the 'old gas' called R12 or something? Can someone confirm?
