it depends on the "loosy" feel, it could be the plastic shifter bushings, that would make a sloppy shift. Or does it grind when shifting?
if so , it could be an adjustment on the slave cyl. or master. then again, it could be time for a 5 speed!!!

In your gear box, there is a front section (including the bellhousing) a centre plate and a rear section. The centre plate has three grub screws for use with a flat blade screw driver. You should check that these haven't come loose and wound out. This can make it feel loose. You will need to drop the box out if you need to get a screw driver to them though..or the top one at least. The grub screw should not protrude from the case. But if you wind them in ALL the way, you won't be able to select any gear!

hmmm... it doesn't grind when shifting just feels like neutral in every gear, i can move the gear lever in each gear almost six inches sideways, like when in neutral.

Gear lever pivot bushes, see your Datsun dealers parts counterman.

Part number 32855 H1010 is the most recent number in my 1200 parts book, so give it a try. You will need two of them, but buy four as a hedge against future availability.

They are the same bushes as used in the B310 Sunny sedan gearbox.
