Hello one and all, and from a five minute browse, I think I've found what will be a usefull and helpfull site!!
The wife and I have recently purchased a fully restored 1957 Morris Minor, fitted with a datsun 1200 engine!! It is a great little car, but as it gets very cold here in melbouerne Australia, we need to fit a heater!! I have aquired an old school Smiths heater ( Cylindrical) type with two semi circle doors on the front!! I went out and attempted to hook it up and install it yesterday, and to my dismay cannot find any heater, hot water carying hoses on the engine (other than the main radiator ones!!
I know this is a vague question but any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Cheers and thanks in advance !!!
Bobby

there should be one on the back of your head and the other one is on your lower outlet where the radiator hose conects up to

Here's a pic of my 120y's engine bay with the warm water inlet at the back of the block (1) and the return line to the radiator (2 and 3). i suppose it's not uncommon for people to block up the heater passages when doing engine transplants but to my understanding it is "illegal"

Thanks RB 20, I had read somewhere that there is an outlet on the back of the cylinder head, but on doing the transplant I think they remove the outlet and block it with a common plug from a plumbers suplier!! Not much room at the back of cylinder head but, the one on the liwer outlet may be obscured , from vision by the extractors the previouse owners have installed? That being on the left hand passsenger of the motor!!
If there are any site you can point me yo with images of the 1200 engine and outlets it would be greatly appreciated!!
Thankyou sincerely Bobby==========
Ps, a Scientific publications workshop manual for the Datsun 100-1200 engines came with the car, but it is water damaged, and you guessed it, the relevant pages are destroyed!!

it's a later A12 (from my 74\75 120ysedan) but I figured that aspect of the motor should't have changed much. I know the bottom radiator hose is ussually made up of 2 hoses on the older ones? so it can avoid the alternator or just make it easier I suppose

welcome
if your engine is an early a12 you may not have the same pipe outlet of the block as the one in the pic, instead the bottom radiator hose is originally a 2 piece item with a T joining them and an outlet for the heater hose. you can still get these bits new from most autoshops, i think i got mine from autobarn ??

all australian datsun A-series engines had a 4speed behind them, regardless of when your engine was made.

as for the excessive throw in the selector. the bushes down where the selector goes into the 'box are usually worn on these old girls, so a new set of them might need to be fabricated or bought (if you can still buy them??)

these are some instructions i found for how to do it:
To replace the bushes, you will need to remove your gearstick knob (usually it will just twist off), and then remove the gearstick boot (the rubber thing covering up the hole in the floor of the car where the gearstick comes through). If your car has a center console between the front seats, you may have to remove this too.

Once the gearstick boot is off, you should be able to see the top of the gearbox through the hole in the floor. There should be another smaller rubber boot at the base of the gear stick, which needs to be removed.
Remove the E clip (circlip) and the pin retaining the gear stick to the control assembly, and remove the gearstick. You can then insert your new bushes into the hole in the base of the gearstick (one in each side). The gearstick can then be replaced, along with the boot, knob, etc.

Ok heres one of the phot'os, As you can see there is onle pipe exiting the front of the engine I have a suspicion that they have removed the etra tube and pushed the radiator hose over it? As the output feels vevy long, and sticks right into that hose 3-4 inches at least, Cant pull the sucker off today as we are going for a cruise!!
Another pic to be posted
Cheers and many thanx Bobby=
