Ok i made a stupid mistake today, i took the carbs off aswell as my head to replace the head gasket (has been making more milkshakes so i bit the bullet but the gasket didnt to seem to be blown but we will see) and also to make the inlet and extractors flange the same thickness.
But what i screwed up is the carbs still had fuel in them and i was turning them upside down and all around the place, so im guessing my float has changed and the carbs are flooding yeah?
Ive tried to start the motor again but unused fuel keeps on being shot out the end of the carbs and it wont idle or hardly rev.

What can i do to fix the prob? Do i need to dismantle them both or leave it to dry out or what?

Im a silly fool

Cheers
Dave

maybe find a big hill and roll down in second gear with your foot flat and the choke off, I did that with a mates flooded CBR 250 bike and it got it going after 30 seconds of rolling

Hi dave I see you have found yourself a front bumper for your 1200, as I saw it at colgrave's again this week.
I also saw it parked up in York street near the Roman Bath's.
Looks good with the chrome grill, certainly stands out against the blue.
by the way when is our next datto meet???

Cheers james, its come up pretty good but really needs a clean and polish!

Any more ideas bout the carbs guys? It just wont idle and splutters everywhere, do they just need drying out or have i upset something when i turned them upside down still with fuel in them? There was fuel gushing out the top when i had them off & upside down, just didnt think it would harm them at all

Cheers
Dave

Oh and the meet, i duno but im damn keen for one aye!

maybe you have got the fuel floats stuck up the top of the carbie and no fuel can get in .... i had the opposite problem, my fuel needles were f'ed and too much fuel kept going in

Hi, Dave your float valves could be hung open, or you might of had some sediment in the bottom of your float bowls and it is now plugging some of your jets.I would remove the float covers and check the float movement. Then remove the jets one at a time and blow them out with carb cleaner. That should help your problem or give you a good starting point as to whats not wrong with your carbs. Good luck Larry.

Unless you banged it against something, turning the top upside down and around shouldn't change the float level.

Two common causes for fuel running out:

1. There is a small check ball or check cylinder in the fuel pump passenger. Make sure that didn't come out.

2. Gasket put on backwards

did you recheck your valve cearance sounds like valves aren't fully close causing compression to spit fuel out the carbs or how about you have a few crossed wire causing backfiring through carbs what type of carbs are you using. if the carbs are flooding that much it would unlikly you would be able to get the car started

Thanks for the replys guys, i took the tops of the carbs off and sucked all the fuel out and gave them a clean - blew air thru all the jets cleaned them then put it all back together. I also adjusted my tappets (ex - .35mm & in - .30mm) and whacked it all back together.
It runs fine now thank god!

But... i still have quite a milkshake going on under the oil cap.
I replaced the head gasket on sunday and there didnt seem to be any cracks at all on the head or rusted marks on the deck of the block/head so i duno how this could be happening

What are other causes of water getting in the oil or causing a milkshake? Im completely stumped..

Dave kinda happy
