Howdy peoples, im in such a good mood today, ive finaly finished with the auto 2 5 speed swap and took it out for a test drive. the gears started off a bit stiff, but loosened up quite quick, i noticed the 1st and 2nd gear ratio is exstremely close in not sure but they really feel like there both first gear, but still goes like a beuty, finally when ariving back home i checked under the bonnet to turn down the revs and noticed that there was coolent coming out the bottom block, any suggestions or comments welcome

your sure it was coming out the block and not down the side from a slightly loose hose?

I'd be guessing its probably a loose heater/radiator hose. well fingers crossed anyway :)

well thats what got me , ive checked all hoses and checked for any small fractures in the radiator ect and simply cant find where it come from.also at around 80kmh the steering wheel shakes, i first thouht it was the busted uni's in the driveshaft but the whole car doesent shake just the steering wheel, could it be something small like wheel alighnment or balencing.

For the coolant leak, did you check the welsh plug on the rear of the block (is there one on a a-series?) also one on the back of the head. There is also the outlet for the heater on the back of the head im sure.

There is a welch plug behind the flywheel & of course, one at the back of the head, but surely, there is no one left who simply refits a head without replacing any steel welch plug with a brass one.
Thats just an invitation to further problems.

It's the same with the one behind the flywheel. If the clutch is out, then pull the flywheel & fit a brass plug. Once done properly, it needs never be thought of again.
