Hi gang I was just thinking about how I am going to run vacuum advance for my datrats bluey II dizzy with the twin solex mikuni 40's?
I can either set the base ignition to 17 or so degrees and leave the vacuum advance disconnected, of figure out a way to run vacuum advance from in front of the throttle's?
Has anybody had experience with either way?
Is there a better way to make it work?

Blofly, have the carbs got a vacuum port? Some emissions type sidedraughts have one?

With my webers there is no vacuum port on the carbs so i am limiting the amount of travel there is in the advance slot by welding and filing to correct amount.

Then you can run more base/static timing without ending up with too much total advance.

I thought datrats might of asked this when you ordered it because you need lighter springs so you get quicker advance too.

Ahhh I will go over them in the morining and double check them.
I have ordered two dizzys from datrats actually (the first one was sold to RONALD) and both times Errol didn't ask about the springs. It must just be a standard sprung dizzy hey?

Most of the time, engines that run multiple Weber/DelOrto/Solex carbs also run a hot cam & this setup doesn't usually generate enough vacuum to suck fizzy drink up a straw. Engines like this are often driven at high power settings, further degrading the vacuum level, so the vacuum advance canister on a distributor is little more than decoration.
This is why the manufacturer does not provide a distributor vacuum port.

Hey Blofly,
you wont really need vac advance with this set up. I run no vac - 10deg@ idle and dissy advances it's 22 deg via the springs. Total advance will be achieved around 2000rpm so you wont need any artificial advance help with twin carbs. Just keep it nailed and enjoy the noise
Cheers

I'm running the stock late model no-points dizzy without hooking up the vacuum with the MSR carbs and just set it for total advance... ended up being around 10-11 at idle. It ran okay but then I removed one of the two advance springs to get quicker advance and it works great now. Did the same mod to my wife's ute with Mikuni/Solex carbs and the same dizzy and worked a treat once again.
