Hey guys,

This video footage (20mb) was made available by one of the guys who races in Improved Production. While it doesn't have any Datsun content, I know some the guys who frequent here would like to improve their times at Wakefield Park......and everything you need to know i on this video footage. Apologies for the low resolution..... the guy who made the video was having rouble getting the file to the host, in the end they had to reduce the resolution.

IPRA Video

A bit of background...........

The Video footage is taken from a FWD Toyota Startlet, running a 1.8L (stroked to 1.9L) engine. Drivers name is Dave Loftus - and he is one hell of a steerer. The Escort which features in this video is owned and driven by Bob Jowett. It runs a 2L ford telstar block with a twin cam mazda head. Makes plenty of HP. These guys are the front runners of the Under 2L class....and are actually quicker than most of the over 2L class Lap times are around 1:07 - 1:08's .....bloody quick when you consider there are no turbo's here...all Naturally aspirated. Suspension and corner speed are the key to going fast, and while the escort has a little more grunt the Startlet handles like it is on rails........enjoy.

Mark

Fantastic Mark - especially the ending! This is why we love to race. What did Dave Loftus used to drive?

Awsome bit of footage there Mark
Both great drivers. I have driven againt bob at bathurst a few times he was driving the family car M3 then the following year a R8 commodore.Drives them both bloody hard. Nice bloke. When i was last speeking to him he was still runnign the cosworth engine & was sick of the expense and continually blowing up!!! looks like the telsta donk is producing the good's to be running 1:07 in an under 2lt na car is just incredible I had better pull my finger out.
Cheers Andrew

1:07..that might be almost faster than any of the 2005 datnats people (300zx excluded).

The clip was a good watch.

Toyota Starlet's are a girls car.

Although I'm not sure that a "Sunny' is particularly masculine either

Ouch...that hurts!

Bob has had just as much trouble getting the Current engine to hang together...... He went to destroy another engine in the final last weekend. Biggest problem they are currently having is exhaust temps. The thing runs so hot, and the engine builder has removed so much material in the porting, that head distorts around the valve area and the valve seat drops out!.......everything goes to mush in very quick time from that point!

Hey Mark.. that wasn't to be taken personally, we are all Sunny people.

As for Bob's engines..that sure is living on the edge when stuff starts falling out of the head..

No worries mate....pretty thick skin here ;)

Yeah.....the engines are a bit of a grenade....virtually need to be inspected after each race meeting.

Great video!! That starlet sticks like .... to a blanket. The amount of ground he makes up across the top and through corners is amazing Good ending - even Bob couldn't deny the result - he was on the edge all race! Good and clean and as close as hell ....... gotta go do it 1:08 around Wakefield - the stuff dreams are made of .......
Cheers

great video! Bob will be kicking himself! after surviving the onslaught for so long, to just throw it away on the last corner must really hurt...

this kind of stuff really makes me want to go circuit racing myself.

teretonga, dave Loftus drove a GTR last year, but due to the stupidly restrictive IPRA rules for LM turbo cars, the U2L Starlet is significantly faster
