Hey
just wondering if the shifter is too far back when a long tail l series 5 speed is installed in a 1200.
Will i need to make shifter linkages up to get it in a comfortable postition.

i have about 6 long tail 5 speeds spare from my 1600 but no stumpies (stanza/skyline), so i would like to be able to use one of them!

thanks hayden

as far as i know you can get the shifter to come out pretty much in the right spot using a stumpy box, where as anything longer means cutting a new hole/elongating the original hole a fair bit..
Solution - buy my stumpy stanza 5-speed :) PM me if your keen!

mmm i don't really want to have to buy another gearbox cause i already have so many.
I am thinking it is going to be alright as a 1600 4 speed box is the same length as a stumpy, and a long tail 5 speed in a 1600 puts the shifter in an alright position.

hopefully it is the same in a 1200

hole comes out a fair way back, providing itsa sedan or coupe and you move back handbrake i think it ends up in more comfortable position, right next to drivers seat, ill try post pics when i next see the car. long ones are supposedly stronger too

yeah is a sedan so it should be good.
i think i prefer the shifter back a little aswell.
i could even bend a little "dog leg" i the shifter if i wanted it a little further forward.

pics would be appreciated

Yeah, It's probably 100mm(?) or so rearward, so I put the shift in backward so it leans forward not back and shortened it. Should be reasonably comfy then.
Cheers
