Well I feel like a twit.
I have been trying to figute out just what is wrong with my front end.
all measurments are the same both sides but 1 wheel sticks out a little more than the other.
I made a phone call to ask the stupid question I had in the back of my mind,
"are the calipers on my R31 brakes leading or trailing"
Well it seems that I have stuck them on the wrong side so hopfully this will fix my dramas and I can get out on the road.

How would brake calipers determine the position of the wheels in relation to the bodywork ????? The only thing that comes to mind is that the engine cross member has slightly elongated holes at the mounting points, maybe your cross member is slightly off centre.

Hahahahah...... We all have blonde days .

If it makes you feel any better........
I went looking for somewhere to hook my choke cable to my CA18DET the other day.
Dead set - Thought about it for a full 2 minutes before the penny dropped .

calipers wouldnt change anything?

if you have aftermarket front guards that could be whats making your front end 'appear' out of whack..

i know mine does

I put my head gasket on upside down on my A15 a few weeks ago, thats my blonde moment!
Thats weird about the calipers making your wheels sit out differently though never thought it could be possible

I reckon Tyrie's on the money there- check the length of your LCA's & bottom ball joints.

I'd reckon Tyrie was on the money if the 1200 and stanza lower balljoints were the same. Wonder how he managed that.

Not many other reasons for this really.

It's more likely that the crossmember is off to one side (can make +-2degrees camber difference). Also likely that one of his guards is 'pushed in' making the wheel appear different offsets.

These are my guesses.
