hey all,

I have been reading up on the rear disc setups for the standard 1200 diffs..

can anyone give me a run down of exactly what needs to be done for both the r31 and for the bluebird setups...
I know the diff isnt very good but they will be going on a sedan diff.. any differences to a ute diff?? (axles ect)
Im off to the wreckers tomorrow and after some ideas

any replies much appreciated

Jonno I am no expert on this but there is a big difference between the sedan diff and the ute diff (ute diff has bigger crownwheel and axles), and I think the disc brakes onto a sedan diff option is relatively uncharted waters, and although I am sure it would be possible, if you do it you will probably be one of the few who have tried, so let us know how it goes.

The H165 (ute) diff has larger axle tubes. Therefore the brake stuff can't be bolted straight on.

The first step in a 'bolt-on' disc brake conversion is to do the Ute rear axle swap. The Bluebird rear discs will bolt straigh up to the Ute's axle housing, but not the smaller passenger model housing.

To do something with these smaller rear ends will require a custom made caliper mounting bracket.

hate to call you guys wrong .... but....

you guys are wrong
h145 h150 and h165 all have the same axel bolt flange, therefore all the disc setups that will bolt to a ute diff will bolt up to a sedan diff
the only thing that is likely to be different is the offset of the axel itself(how far it sticks out) so a few spacers MIGHT be needed

so there it is for the record, all the flanges are the same for h145 h150 and h165

now as for the question you asked

the r31 setup needs
-custom handbrake cable
-2 different holes drilled in the caliper bracket(2 already line up)
-the centre of the caliper bracket should be bored out to allow removal of the axel without taking the brakes with you
-a flexable brake line to be fitted to either side of the diff to go from the diff housing to the caliper
-some spacer shim washer things should be used to centre the caliper over the disc

pretty sure thats about all,but i think with either setup you may have clearance issues in a sedan as the caliper comes close to the chassis rail(havnt got this far in my conversion yet)

also with both you will need new wheel bearings as the old ones need to be removed to get the drum backing plate off

Au' contraire.
The backing plate flange is NOT the same. Not even close. I can't speak for the H150 but the H145 & H165 backing plate flanges are quite different.

well then i must have a weird h145, coz i just bolted the backing plate i took off my h165 to the h145

so i would say they arent different at all, unless a 120y h145 is different to a 1200 h145

my information is about 15 minutes old

but please do share your information so we can get to the right conclusion

dont forget you can use the disc brake rotor off a mitsbishi and the just make a bolt on caliper mount out of some 5mm steel its custom work i Know but if you use the skyline calipers with the mitsubishi rotors it allows for more wheel options
