rebuilding steering box ?

datsun 1200 ute 1980 . i have the car striped and am putting it back too gether and not shore if i need to rebuild the steering box or addjust it it was nt too bad befor i pulled the 1200 out but now it will have a ca18 and could be dumb to have slopp in the steering ????? any suggestions

You shouldn't have any signifigant wear in your steering box.... Providing it hasn't been run dry.

Perhpas the slop is in your tie-rod ends, ball joints etc......?

I'd check that out first.

If it's not the problem, the re-circulating lead ball arrangement in the steering box will probably be worn.
You can shim up the ball housing in some steering boxes, but I reckon the easiest way out would be to try & find a replacement.

thanks dude it did have 4 thin bits of metal gaskets i guess its only ment too have one, than when it wears a bit you add more ????
