Strangely but logival enough the e15et pistons are the same

looks pretty a14 pulsar to me...

also a14 pulsars had open chamber heads which are goo too

confusing though, this would mean a14 pulsars had pretty low compression

was gonna ask some questions about this???

edit: that is the ones on the website listed as a15 look like the pulsar ones

dont forget the pulsar et engine has really small chambers and valve angles

So dose anyone know if the e15 turbo pistons will fit in a a15 (i now theres heaps of threads but i cant seem to find the answer i am after)
i found that the bore sizes are the same and the pins are the same
the only difference ids the compression height
if i put them in would they lower my compression
and i take it they fit straight on a15 rods?

I have built an A14 with E15ET pistons, worked a treat but was unfortunately never boosted. Compression was perfect. Was tried with a A15 crank but pushed the pistons out the chamber too far. They still needed a slight shave from memory, but definitely a goer! Was a while ago but I believe they drop straight onto the rods. They will lower the compression, yes..

ok sounds good so they might have needed a shave to fit in the bore ? as long as i use the standard rods i shouldnt have any height clearence problems with the head ?
im building a turbo motor so might the way for a poor mans forgies lol

No. The block was bored to suit the new pistons, the tops of the pistons were very slightly faced as they still popped out the block on the A14 crank. And yep, standard rods. They were my substitute for forgies. As long as you keep the boost around 14-15psi they are fine.

They'd fit an a15 rod, but would sit approx 3.5mm above the deck at TDC.

FWIW - ACL still list availability of a15 pistons in their catalogue (actually available to download from acl.com.au if you can find it!)

they list them in std and 0.5 and 1.00mm oversizes. Interestingly they list them as a kit of pistons and rings with those oversizes in plain, and only in 1.0mm in a kit with moly ring. However they also list the moly rings as available separately for all std, 0.5mm and 1.0mm oversize.

Based on experience with them in other motors, as long as you don't run into detonation, they will handle as much as 15psi or more boost (there's basically two conditions to deal with - 1 is preignition/detonation - avoid it and you're golden 2. is heat soak - which is basically even if you avoid detonation etc, you eventually expose the piston crown to more heat than it can get rid of before the next cycle and the piston literally starts to melt/burn away. This is the 'main' reason for forgies in a blown motor - they are denser and can tolerate (and conduct away) more heat energy.

On ring sets - there's two theories - generally the plain ones will cop less abuse, so the moly or chrome ones are 'the go' . On the other hand if the boost isn't too ridiculous, the plain rings don't cause as much bore wear and you might get an extra 're-ring' with a light hone for the same bore size, and hence get more life out of the a15 - which are getting a little harder to get I suppose.

On the oversizes - although for an NA engine, the bigger the bore, the more capacity, generally the more power, on a turbo engine, the slightly smaller bore means thicker bore walls and better ring seal under the extra forces from inducting and burning twice as much air/fuel - and hence more power from std/small oversizes.
