1 What do you guys have as your ignition timing. I know recomended is around 7 but mine is running ok at around 18. It is a reco motor but still all stock so would this make a difference or should i change it to 7 pronto?

2 Where the hell is the bolt on the a12 distributor to advance/retard the timing? I tried to find a bolt or clamp or something around it and the only thing i could find was a small bolt on the bottom of the thing that is a bitch to get to. Is this it or am i just a blind, ignorant goofball? Actually don't answer that just tell me how to do it

3. This is the real pickle for me. I know that the recomended firing order is 1342 on a12's but mine seems to be 1243. I just don't get it. Did the later a12's have a different firing order, or would it have something to do with the fact it's been reconditioned? I really don't know but thought i would check with you guys first before i change it to the recomended.

4. Do you guys bother putting lead substitute in your a12's or are they fine just to run on unleaded?

5 what is the best service repair manuals to own for a 75 1200 ute?

Cheers
Trav

1. My A15 is happiest around 13deg. if it's not pinging, give it the advance it wants.

2. The tiny bolt on the bottom is an adjuster but not the main one. the other should have the head of the bolt on the top near that. have another look.

3. All A's have the same - 1342. the dizzy shaft turns anticlockwise and when youre standing on the right side of the car looking at the dizzy, # 1 should be around the bottom right sort of area....ish . 3 is next anticlockwise at top right, 4, then 2.

4. Unleaded should be fine. Mine loves Premium 98 octane and stops it 'running on' at switch off.

5. Gregories and Scientific Publilcations are pretty much the same and dirt cheap on ebay. They'll tell you what you need to know most of the time. Proper Nissan ones kick ass over these but are as rare as rocking horse $hite.

Thanks champ.

I'm a dope. I was reading the sequence clockwise from the bottom instead of anticlockwise. DEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRR!!!!

And i will definately have a look for the bolt which you speak of.

I have seen gregories books about but only the coupe/sedan/wagon ones for 1000-1200 from 196something till 1974. No ute ones or after 74 books. Does a dedicated 1200 ute manual exist?

Perhaps a Nissan one exists, but I've never seen one, but that's all there is when it comes to the others.

Yes they do. I was lucky enough to grab it when it was offered up on ebay not to long ago.

titled " Service Manual" model A10 and A12 Engine Nissan Motor CO, LTD.
printed in Japan with issue date of 1st March 1970

The Greogory's Manual, will have all the info you require though
