G'day guys,

I'm about to build some front coilovers and I need to buy new shocks. I currently have stanza struts with koni inserts but have decided I will really have to go for a shorter strut body to allow lower ride height and more suspension travel.

The question is, what sort of shock inserts are appropriate (ie shorter than stanza) and what do you guys recommend considering I want to do it relatively cheaply. I got a price on a set of 240z KYB standard replacement shocks and they are gonna cost me $150. It sounds like a fair bit of money for just standard replacement items.

The other end of the spectrum is a new set of koni's but I don't think I'd get away with much change from $450 for a pair of them.

Ideas??

for cheap ones id go the 240z ones, or look into 300zx ones as they are supposed to the fairly short too

300zx Z31? or Z32. I imagine you are talking about Z31 because I think the Z32 are a wishbone front end?

My partners car has stanza struts shortened for Z31 300ZX inserts, they are the Kyb oil/gas assist and are real good, I paid $165 from maddat for those and about $120 to get the strut bodies cut and retapped to suit.

I have 280zx konis in my 1200 and the Z31 inserts are about 15mm shorter than the 280zx.

I have a photo of 280zx, Z31 and stanza inserts side by side, I have to dig it out.

Dave...l ran 240z inserts in my ute. From memory (and its hazy coz l can't find the paper l worked it out on), l cut about 70mm off.

My car was fairly low, and it gave really good suspension travel in both directions. I also ran kyb inserts. I think that price isn't too bad either (can't remember what l paid, but l've got the email somewhere!!)

I reckon the Z31 insert was about 60mm shorter but its a bit hard to measure now there in the car, if they come out I will measure definitely.
