I need a camshaft for A 1400,want A12 GX cam,would like a new one but will concider a good used one.

A12GX cam won't work in an A14 engine. See wiki - Cam interchange

You'll get more power with a modern cam grind. Just tell your grinder the GX specs, but tell him you want an up-to-date profile.

Well, if you split the 1200 & A12 designations, then the 1200 GX cam will not work in the A14, but the later A12 GX [B210] one will. These are not particularly 'hot' but work well with the stock twin Hitachi induction in a street engine.
For a given cam spec, the bigger the engine capacity, the milder the cam seems, so you would really be better off talking to your friendly reputable cam grinder & listen intently to his recomendations as Ddgonzal has suggested.
