Hi all, esepcially u dattomasters

Despite having setting the timing to specs, My 1400 ute is feelin a bit too slugish.
So I try to advance timing, but get annoying pinking noise/Chain noise.

The power is considerably better when timing advanced, but cant stand the pinking noise.....Also checked on carb setting, and its good.

PLEASE HELP......

The Ute is a 2003 model, a14......I need more power with out any major conversions to the motor, cause the UTE still on warranty

You don't want pinking! It can lead to broken motors.
Try using the best octane gas you can by at the pump, and then run the spark as far advanced as you can WITHOUT it pinking.
Is it really sluggish, or have you just gotten used to how it goes?

Hi A14

It aint me getting used to how it goes.

Its kinda slugish, dont have the ooomp, like my old 1200 Sedan, and other older 1400 utes I've driven.
Is it probably, that the motor aint fully run in, and free,
Cos I noticed that the older a14 gets, a bit quicker, and has like a louder hum on the engine..

Oh, or amI forgettin that the tyre size will coz it to be a bit sluggish on take off, due to ground coverage......15' 195 and mags

Hi Reeves
Don't expect too much from the bakkie A14 engine. They don't have much grunt without mods. One night I dragraced a A14 bakkie 3 traffic lights in a row.Everytime I beat him. This was with $hitty points, stuffed exhaust and badly tuned SU's.
Change the timing back as soon as possible. It can cause damage as mentioned.

Last weekend I raced against a 1999 Opel 1.8 16valve and also a late 90's 316i BMW.
I did'nt beat them but kept up with them.
Just not enough grunt to overtake, but handling wise I am very happy.
This is now with the mods as mentioned in my signature and tuned SU's.

Aha. There is your answer.
Get rid of those 15's and get a nice set of 13's.Racing Heart at Tiger wheel & Tyre makes nice mags.

No prob.

It is always sad to sell something that you got attached to.
Why 15's? Just for looks?
My 13's are 185 wide and I think 15's are 195 wide. Can't think that 10 can make a difference in traction.

Well, The 15's was for looks mainly,
but I got more than i bargained for,
coz she handles exceptionaly well, expecially with 45 profile Yohamas on them.

Plus another reason was, not having to roll fenders and put on spacers etc, oh not forgetting that most of the other mags fitted onto 1400's are bit too common

No Offence intended bro

Know exactly what you mean. I was the first person in Bloemfontein to fit these mags I have on now. Now every bakkie I see have them fitted.
I so wanna get rid of mine and buy some other mags I saw the other day. Also 13's but they look exactly the same as those minilites that the Ford escort rally cars used in the 70's.
