for those of you who have done an r31 diff conversion what did you do about the mounting brackets since the housing is larger diameter so requires new bolts. i assume getting new ones made is the go but the shocky mount could be a bit tricky. any thoughts???

Hey Picko,
can't help you much but I'll be dropping my R31 diff in to be shortened this week. I'm giving the guy my 1200 diff too and he's making custom brackets up for the R31 based on the old diff. He's getting some longer U bolts too so that all I have to do is drop the diffs off, pick them up and bolt the new one straight in. Pretty straight forward. It cost a little bit more but for the shortening and the brackets I was quoted around 700. If you've got any specific questions I can ask him when I drop the diffs off.

Cheers.

Hey picko,

For mine I got 2 pieces of 75 x 50mm RHS & cut 160mm long, welded together & machined a 76 diameter hole through the centre of the join.
Then it's a matter of welding some end caps on (modification approval requirements), setting the pinion angle & welding to the axle housings.

I went for the 75 x 50mm to lower the rear.
A lot of blokes use 50 x 50mm then add lowering blocks later on.
160mm is a bit longer than what most people have done too.... This was an effort to reduce axle tramp.

Here's a photo of mine prior to welding.

thanks guy. perhaps i am not making myself clear but i am taking about the clamping plate that the u bolts go through. in the photo it appears you have used the original ones. how did the bolts fit with the larger diameter diff?

falcon wagon U bolts work well.....as they are designed for the diff
if its a sedan then you can also use the falcon bottom plate as you dont worry about shock mount

RHS ig good for mounts, i used some 50x75 and cut it down to get the height i wanted then them just die grinded a nice semi circle in it for the diff
