O.k.... I've got myself some Gemini variable rate springs as suggested on another thread.

Looking to change into my 120Y struts next weekend.
I'm just trying to work out if I need to make up a spring compressor 1st or if the struts at max. travel will allow me to remove the 120y springs without copping a spring in the moosh.

Also wondering how well the Gemini springs will slot back in & if they'll need to be compressed 1st.

Harry. If you're listening.......

dodgy way, ratchet straps (worekd for me first time round) . proper way spend $30 and then you will have a set of compressors for life.

At least i have ratchet straps still

if the gemini springs need to be compressed when they go back in then your car will sit really really high in the front.....just so you know

120y springs arent that strong, the nut on top of the strut wont go to far
but probably not a good idea to point the spring at yourself

Ta Nick.....

I'm planning to cut the Gemini springs to achieve the same ride height as I've got now.
They should be a bit firmer after I've cut them...
The idea is to get better cornering with the stiffer (cut) springs, while retaining good driveability thanks to the variable rate..... Good old GMH engineering .

Some new KYB shockies on the way too.

Also gonna spend some time with the trusty arc welder & some 3/16" strip to brace up the std 1200 swaybar.

Hopefully by the time I'll finally have it handling like a 1200 should .

good old variable rate....ive always started cutting from the variable end to get rid of the soft part

no 120y's around you to steal the sway bar from? save spending time with the trusy arc

been a while since i took some stock springs out(1200/120y) but i dont think they spring very far, so either do as unfam said and strap the spring a bit to limit its extention.....or just make sure you have something to catch the nut if it does decide to take flight

For what it's worth though, you can get some cheap spring compressors.

I use mine once in a blue moon, but it saves putting nut-shaped holes through the shed wall...

on my ute i have one side 1200 set up with drums, it sits 2finger gap between guard to tyre and on the other side i have the silvia brakes with 120y struts and it sits a mile high..

should i just use the 1200 caps or cut the spring?

or is there another way to get it lower.. coz there 1200 low king springs

120y struts, with the springs you were using before and 1200 strut tops

should sit at the same height
