well for the 2nd time, some how fuel has pouredout over flows on the new su's i have fitted. At the same time some how fuel and oil poured out of the breather hose (approx 1 to 2 lt maybeof the mixture).

This is how i think it happend, the petrol tank got heated so much in out 40deg c heat over the last 4 days since i drove it last, pressurising the tank and the needles and seats on the sus were the weakest point for the pressure to release. Petrol tank always hissed when opened in hot weater, but this time sounded like a blow off valve venting! So should have raised the alarm to me a long time ago bu this meant it was holding in pressure.
unfortunately the fuel had no where to go except into the head tehn past the valves sitting in the bores and seaping past the rings into the sump. this happened for 3 - 4 days!!!!

when starting the car it ran for 10 sec tops, when i saw the mess i shut it down immediately.
have drained oil and 6.5 lt came out the sump on top of the 1-2 lt that came out the breather hose!
Went to start it up again after and oil change and filter change too, fuel out the over flow, somehow the needle and seat on sus is now jammed opened, flowing too much fuel again.

Upon further investigation, i belive this is all attributed to the fact that the previous owner hooked up the breather system in the boot wrong for the fuel tank! he vented it just back to the filler valve pipe and used plastic irrigation joins that were brittle and deformed possibly by the petrol vapours.


So hope fully thats it for my 2007 misadventures on this car and the new year brings happy motoring finally.

Proves how invaluable clubs like this are and when you have a good network of support out there to contact, even if it a text or two or a quick phone call. Little bits of information from different people cam flick your ideas switch to find a solution.

The one time my hitachi SU's did that, there was crap in the needle and seat. I never bothered to fir hoses to the bowl vent nipples, so I could see which carb had the problem. The float should control the fuel flow into the bowls. Heat in the fuel tank wouldn't cause this IMO. The fuel pump would act as a valve to prevent this.

I had the same sort of thing happen on one of my su's turned out the float had a small crack in it so it was filling with fuel and not rising to shut off the needle and seat, so fuel was just pouring out the overflow.

did it overflow when the car was not running if it does you can eliminate the carbyside of the fuel pump and if it does it when the car is running you could eliminate the fuel tank side. well thats a quick thouhgt didnt think about it too long so i probably overlooked somthin

my car did the eggzacct same thing had a crack in the float

filled up sump when not running, spat out crap when turned it over, and overflowed out of oerflows when emptied all the crap out of engine and did the oil change.

I can see why it would overflow out of overflows if a crack in the floats or needle and seat full of crap when running but cant see why it would continue to flow when the car was not running filling the engine full of fuel?

Fuel pump and carbs would only hold back about 5psi pressure where the rest of the system would hold more than 5 psi is vents off tank were not venting.

is it an electronic fuel pump
i was told that that you only need 2psi of fuel preesure

min youst to run on 5 psi and we thought that was the problem but it wasnt it was i crack in the float

we know run a bleed off line or watever there called witch after the fuel pump goes back into the fuel tank and lowerd the fuel pressur about 2.5 psi

nah running stock fuel pump.

one float was not craked but jamed down bottom giving the impression that it needed fuel, so fuel kept flowing in, might have been caused by heat but looks like heat was the main factor due to incorrectly vented (read was not) fuel tank.

will install over next couple of days and see what happens, hopefully any petrol left in oil gallaries has evaporated off the oil by now.
