Just put the front end back in a 1200 Coupe and the resistor for the coil has smoke coming off it, would this mean something is wired up wrong?

perhaps! they are meant to get hot, so maybee something like some glue or other gunk has gotten on it, and its burning.. read the tech articles about changing it to a 12volt system, then u can remove the resistor! or just clean it up when its cold and see if it still smokes.

agreed: - wiring wrong - gunk on it is burning off (I've seen that before) - coil is shorted (drawing too much current)
