Can thecamshaft of an A15 be removed easily while still in the car ?
Are the lifters an issue?

If only. You have to flip the motor upside down due to the mushroom lifters.

Remembering just how easy it is to remove an A series, & how much grief you can get trying to do the job in situ, I think that on balance, pulling the engine is the lesser of two evils.

yeh the A series has a few design flaws.

the cam shaft installation/removal, sump installation/removal, oil pickup and valve springs...

the fastest time i have had the gearbox out of my ute was about 50mins, then considering all you need to do is 2 engine mounts nuts, fuel line, rad hoses and any little electric bits its about a 90 min job to have the engine out. and that isn't to bad i suppose.

Why do you want to remove it?
If you want a regrind, or to fit a lumpier cam, you'll have to get the lifters refaced anyway. Depending of course how much much you care about your engine.
