Am looking at buying a car from QLD and bringing back into NSW, now I know its not a dato but its still good...hehe. Its a Subaru Liberty that has had a wrx engine transplant. Its all been mod plated in QLD and is currently rego'd up there but am wondering if I'm gonna have any issues getting it complianced and rego'd in NSW. If anyone out there has had any experience in doing this or knows of any issues I may have would love to hear about it. I don't wanna get this car and find out I can't get it on the road down here. Cheers guys, Jay.

cant really help u on the whole mod plate thing, but when u try to swap over a normal stock car u have to register it like an unregistered vehical and it needs to go over the pits(blue slip) its a joke really and now i never really look at cars in other states just too much trouble

Really??? That could be a problem, I know they can be pretty picky when blue slipping a car.... I'm sure the car's fine but its the little things they find. Thats got me thinking now.

I think blueslipping will be easy enough if the car is in good order, its all about whether the RTA will accept the Paper work ( assuming it has any) from the engineer in QLD who signed off on it for the mod plate or whether they will want an engineers report on the car from NSW.
Might warrant a call to the RTA, the guys there are surprisingly helpful.

i had the same issue as you but the other way around.
i bought a 260z w/rb20det from nsw, when i got it back to qld, i had to get a roadworthy, then i drove to get the mod plate done, then i took the paperwork to the department of transport and filled out a new registration form. easy as that. went home and put the plates on the car then proceeded to enjoy a couple of years of happy motoring.

I have moved interstate from Vic to NSW and back a couple of times and far as I know, Blue slipping is mainly for 'numbers' checking. If the car was previously registered with the matching numbers to the rego paperwork and engineers paperwork and the car is in roadworthy condition there should be no probs.
I bought a VH commodore from VIC to NSW with no chassis number (was on radiator support panel - but was replaced with a new one after minor bingle) all I had to do was to get the panel beaters receipt with that particular part on it and show it to the RTA. - All good...
