Hi all,

I have a Sunny 5 speed overdrive in my 1200 coupe that is getting a bit noisy, and have been told that a Stanza 5 speed will bolt directly to the Sunny bell housing without any mods.

Has anyone heard of this before? Any advice most appreciated.

Thanks.

I think you will find that your box doesnt have a bellhousing that "unbolts", so it wont be bolting up to the Stanza box.

Hi, I have two datsun A series overdrive boxes and both bellhousings don't unbolt.
So the answer would most likely be no.
But just take a quick look at yours to be sure.
Cheers.

bellhousing does unbolt...just takes half the gearbox with it

if the sunny gearbox is a 63a(or L i forget) and the stanza is also a 63? then you should be able to swap the rear halves of the gearboxes

If your gearbox is a 63A then it will have an hydrolic clutch, ie a slave and master cylinder for the clutch.

Why not just get new bearings for the sunny 5 speed. Theres only 4 bearings needed & if you take the old ones along to somebody like CBC Bearings or SKF they will read the serial numbers right off the old ones & get you replacements. Done this many times myself (had a mate strip & reassemble the box, however).

Thanks for the info, do you know if parts are still available? The box is a 60 series dogleg overdrive which has done approx. 500,000 kms, so it may need more than just bearings.
The box is still going ok, & I dont want to take the risk of stripping it down to find out that I can,t get parts for it. Do you know anyone in Melbourne I can call who is familiar with these boxes?

Cheers.
