Well, I finally got a new muffler. Here in USA, no one sells a stock size muffler, except for Dynomax (Thrush Turbo). I've been looking for 3-4 months, I didn't want to go with the 'turbo' since they are a bit noisy.

So thanks to fellow club member Nomore, I got a vintage, classic, Nissan "seasoned" (used) 1200 muffler.

It is so quiet I can hardly believe it. The last one looked like a Midas muffler, and was never this quiet even when new. The Nissan muffler is so quiet I cannot hear the exhaust at idle or at highway speeds. Now I can hear the noise of the alternator, fan ... and the sound of other car's engines.

Why do you want it so quiet dd? I like a bit of a noise, but it has to be at the right rev range, nothing worse than a loud exhaust when you dont want it...

I thought that may be the case dd, and if I had a sedan I wouldnt have much noise coming out of it either as it would be more aimed at the daily driver.

I don't know about others, but I prefer a good 'note' rather than loud 'noise' & listening to a constant loud drone for hours at a time would have me into the muffler shop real quick.

My stock coupe has just done a couple of trips between Sydney & Melbourne & a few stops in between during a 10 day period recently & at 60mph indicated [104kph actual] it was only the wind & tyre noise that hindered my AM radio listening pleasure.

Smooth & quiet is the way to go if you're out touring, .... now let me see, which station had Bing Crosby & Doris Day on it again.

But yeah totally agree Dodgeman, when your cruzin its good to hear whats going on with the car and the radio (AM, FM, or whatever), But I like it when you drop it back a gear and get that good exhaust note, that doesnt overpower the engine noise, its got to be a good balance...

But I HATE stock cars with big/loud exhausts, I believe that exhaust upgrades should be related to engine mods and not just to make a car sound tough because in the end it and the driver just look and sound sh!t when they get left at the lights or wherever by a car thats is tuned correctly...

Quiet is good for stockers, I love my stocker with silent exhaust and sound door/window rubbers, but as Mitch reckons I prefer something thats silent when cruising, but goes nuts when the wastegate opens
