What are the benefits of going to a A14 head on my A12? I guess port & valve sizes?

Whats involved in changing to an A14 head? I think I read somewhere its a matter of enlarging the ports in the inlet manifold & something about the studs? or is it a case of a new set of exhaust & inlet manifolds?

heres a pic of my current setup as of a couple of weeks ago when I was giving her a freshen up:

thanks

Interesting question. The A14 (oval port) head will be good for HP improvement in the 4000-6000 rpm range. Use and A14 intake manifold and A14 exhaust manifold.

If you don't often rev it up, stay with the A12 head.

the valves on the A14 are about 2mm bigger diameter. I had to use an A12 head on my A14 because it was the only one available, the engine is slightly less throaty and revvy. thats still with a mild cam and sports exhaust.

I have heard from rallye drivers that some a12 heads with bigger valves and bigger opposite oval ported and shaped ports can be better for mid range and overall performance than oval ports along with a the right cam, exhaust and single 45mm weber.

I refuse to believe them initially but when I notice high performace heads from rallye renaults and other rallye 4 cylinder 8valvers their ports are oval in a horizontal layout opposite our datsun oval ports.

However how did they miss the water jackets I have no idea, bit like the e series head on the a series block, all a mystery for most of us.

You'll go from 35 RWHP to 38 RWHP.
