Hay all, I have been out of the game for a while and since comming back I have changed my plans. I am now thinking of fitting a CA18DET and AUTO to my 1200 ute. I will be using the 4 speed auto that comes out of a half cut and was wandering if anyone has fitted the auto to a ute, how did you go with the tranny tunnel?

Hey Bundy got some tips for you. since you are putting in the auto - like me - and it comes to getting the whole car wired up n stuff, instead of using the box off the CA18, use a CA20 auto box, its a hydraulic box, and so uses 1 less computer, and also makes the gear changes ALOT smoother, and it bolts straight on.

The ca20 box you can get out of a series III bluebird - just wiki it over there <<<<<<< and it will tell you what year for the series III. This info was passed onto myself and my husband when we were looking at someone to wire up the ute...decided to put it into the wagon instead, which is yet to be done!

The guy said he's wired up CA's into 1200s before and highly recommended using the CA20 box. It was him that said it makes the gear changes smoother, and that it uses 1 less comp due to being a hydraulic box.

As for the trans tunnel, you can get a MADDAT tunnel, or i think the tunnel from a 120Y can fit the auto tunnel.

I am sure others here will correct me if i am wrong.

Cheers

Kirstie

PS: If you decide to go with the ca18 box anyway, i think we have 2 spares sitting here in the garage, or maybe they are still at the inlaws!! either way we have 2 spare CA18 auto boxes.

nothing wrong with autos...makes it a little easier to control for people like me who really shouldnt be driving anything with more then 4hp!!! ( i tend to crash cars with anything more then that!)

also makes it a little easier if u wanna take it for thos drag nights at your local speedway!!! no clutch pressing or gear shifting to get off the line...just floor it and off you go!!!

i got the bluebird auto in mine all it is is 4 or 5 wires for the reverse, and for so you can only start in park and neutral
as for tunnel i just cut my whole thing out and bent 1 up myself and welded it in
i only did this for ease of access if i break something and it needs to come out
but id definetly go the auto
with a good stally and a big turbo
as for power skids with no brakes go the auto
