Hi All,
Is it possible to swap my a12 cam without taking the motor out of the car.
If so how?
Thanks in advance.

It 'might' be possible, but nobody seems to have figured out how just yet.

Remembering that in order to do a cam change you will need to remove the sump, a major in-chassis hassle as well as the radiator, timing case & a whole bunch of other stuff, it really is much easier to pop the engine out & mount it onto an engine stand. This way saves sooooooo much grief & allows the job to be done properly.

Engine removal & re-instalation in a 1200 would have to be regarded as a very simple & straightforward operation at any time, so don't make needless drama for yourself, just make some time, whip 'er out & do the cam job the right way.

I would just pull the motor if you have a engine crane as you need to take the timing cover off, which means you need to drop the front of the sump, not sure if cam will hit rad support or not.

You beat me to it dodgeman!

you have to pull motor out and turn it just about upside down so the lifters dont fall out,it so easy to do.GREG.

... or turn the car itself on its side/upside down! (Keeps the lifters from falling down).

I think it would theoretically possible to retain the lifters with 8 decent magnets (but Murphy's law says 1 will detach then you'll have to go the traditional route to remedy).
