What are the pro and cons of oil verses gas shocks? I'm in two minds about buying new gas inserts or reco'ing some old oil filled ones. Help me decide.
I real poor, so cost is a big factor.

For me, high quality non gas types [like Koni] would be my personal choice.

I've heard people say that 1200's don't need gas. (well one person actually.) And a few new seals would have to be cheaper than new gas inserts.

There is wisdom in these words. To some degree the damping rate can be controlled with oil viscosity, like the motorcycle blokes do, but are you sure that you can get all of the service parts required to perform the overhaul.

For my driving style, gas shocks have nothing to offer, but bone laziness dictates that I follow the 'replacement insert' path, so next time it will be a non gas insert that gets used.

Valid point.
Four or five years back a local mob that specialize in shocks said they could overhaul the shocks in the 1200 i had at the time. So I'm assuming (Ass-you-me) that I'll be able to get them.
