Can anyone tell me please, are the backplates and flywheels the same for all the A-series engines?

For example, will a A12 backplate and flywheel fit an A14 or A15?

Thnx
racnod

They are interchangeable but weights vary for the flywheels.

Bakeplates are. flywheels are interchangeable but not the same i.e. there are various wait's in flywheels basically the biger the motor the heavyer the flywheel.

Has anyone tried running an A12 flywheel on an A14 or A15? Are there any problems?

Thnx again

There are differences as seen above.

Left hand backing plate is a15/14 and right is a12.
Cant remember off the top of my head which is which release bearing carrier, pretty sure the shorter one is a15.

A12 flywheel is lighter and a good and easy upgrade for the larger a14/15's as their flywheels are heavier. Use the right carrier and you'll be fine. Been done quite a bit before

It can be a trap for new players (that's us).

We put a lightened A12 flywheel on our A14 leaving the A14/15 backing plate on, only to find out (after bolting up the gearbox), that there was not enough travel in the clutch fork.

Off came the gearbox, with the quick fix of putting a spacer behind the fulcrum point of clutch fork. Therefore the carrier came out further. We used an exhaust manifold washer, a bit rough but it worked as we had an event the next day.

So, in short. It matters, it would be better if we had not put the thicker backing plate on in the first place.

Cheers
Damien

The "Half" backing plate is for early A12. 120Y onwards is same as A14/A15.
