A14 flywheel

Need confirmation regarding flywheels for A14. Mine has worn down the teeth on the flywheel and i need to clutch start or rock the car in gear to get the flywheel to a spot where the gear is not so worn.

Are all the A series flywheels the same? My starter motor has 8 teeth, (I saw a 120Y starter motor that had 9 teeth, might have been off an auto,and i can't remember how many fixing bolts there are to the crankshaft.

The existing flywheel is the original and the car, a 1980 Sunny Wagon, which has 550,000 km on the clock.

Any help or advise most welcome,Thanks

No, the A series flywheels are not all the same, ... but they do all interchange.

The A10 is the lightest & has a small clutch.
The 1200 & A12's had a heavier flywheel & used a larger clutch.
The A14 uses a heavier flywheel again & the clutch is stronger, but interchangeable with 1200 & A12
The A15 uses an even heavier flywheel & an even stronger clutch which interchanges back to the 1200.

All of the ring gears interchange, so why not check with your Nissan dealers parts department.
Confirm that 12312- 18000 is good for the A14.
I got this number from the 1200 parts book, but it's a Datsun 1000 parts number [the 18xxx in the second half is the giveaway] so clearly this part was carried into 1200 production & I believe that there was no reason to change it for newer models, but check.

The flywheels are secured by six capscrews.

With more than 550,000 Kliks on the clock [341,763 miles] it sure says something about Datsun reliability.

The current Nissan dealership in the City of Blacktown [which is next to Seven Hills] is a descendant of the Datsun dealership that my stepfather & another bloke started in the late 60's [D&G Motors]

yep all flywheels are the same but i think the a10 and early a12 have smaller bolts to hold the pressure plate

AFAIK, the only difference between the flywheels is the thickness of them. Some of the thinner ones require a different thrust bearing carrier.
The A10 flywheels have a different bolt spacing too.

The smaller A10 pressure plate also used smaller bolts, but the larger pressure plates all used the larger bolt as far as I know.

I used an A10 flywheel on my 1200GX engine, so the crank bolt spacing is the same & of course the smaller A10 clutch uses smaller mounting bolt spacing as a result of its smaller PCD.

For the record, my A10 flywheel was 'weight reduced' & redrilled to take the larger clutch. I used the B310/A14 station wagon clutch because the A15 engines in these models had not yet been released.

Thanks, all just wanted to be sure, as the A14 motor I obtained in 2003 and rebuilt came from a very early fwd Pulsar!

I love old Datsun's, they are Adult Meccano/Lego, as so much stuff is interchangable.

I rallied a group G 1600 1980-87, and this interchangability was the reason they were so successful, plus cheap to run then and still today.
