don't see why it wouldn't hit 20g's even if it is engineered for na SR20 it has immaculate paint & body which would easily run to almost 8-10g's and the trim is very well done I remember every one ragging on this guys car in a previous post show me something near the level of finish that this car has. It is a great example , wheels don't appeal to me but I can still say excellent car and show appreciaciation for peoples workmanship , is that what we are supposed to be doing showing and encouraging others , not ####ting on them cause he thinks his car is worth 20g's when others don't , it would most definately run to more than that to build, to this cars particular quality , now honestly would you not be proud to have this in your driveway , I would as a black car looks #### hot .

Well i am gonna chime in here and say i can understand both points of view. It is an amazing looking car and if i owned it i would sit there and look at it for hours on end every night. Your right aca18t, the workmanship does look second to none and all that jazz, and the build would be more than the asking price, but show me any modified car that isn't!!! Honestly 20 g's for a 1200....... any 1200..... I'm sorry but i just wouldn't go there. Hell you could buy an absolute PERFECT FJ20 turbo or SR20 turbo 1600 for less than that and wouldn't have to worry cause the car would be engineered WITH the Turbo.

I love my datto's as much as the next bloke on this site but with the way the prices are going, in a few weeks when i am out shopping for my new car i am seriously considering walking away from owning another datto. The prices are just getting ridiculous. It's only going to be a weekend car for cruising around but i am sick of building cars so want to buy something already done and you have to now look at spending 8-10k plus for anything with a straight body with no rust and just a stock a12. I am in sydney and if you look on car sales there are two that have caught my eye, one for 7500 with a straight body and nice paint, stock everything else and another with the same quality of body, nice interior and a slightly worked a14 for nearly 11k. I mean 11k for a car that is going to push to get under 15 sec quarter mile and doesn't have huge driveline or suspension mods so would handle like a stock ute. It jus doesn't add up for me.

It will be a shame cause i just love 1200's so much but i am budgeting on around 10k for the car and have seen so many more better options for that sort of money. I have been leaning towards buying a GT starlet or a mazda Familia GTR. You get AWD, turbo, modern features, reliability (provided you find an unmolested one) and with a small amount of engine work you can eat rexies alive, especially with the familia. And once you start talking 20k the options are nearly endless!!! You could buy an immaculate r32 GTR Vspec for that sort of money. I know everyone will go 'skylines are like assholes' and all the rest of it but hey, bang for your buck you just can't beat it.

I know i am going to be shot down for saying this stuff but i really don't care. I have been thinking this for a while and feels it needs to be said. It is just such a shame. The 1200's are classic and all and i will prob get over my 'i couldn't be bothered building a car' stage and buy another shell one day and build one but to me at the moment they are just becoming way overpriced. I know there getting rarer but that doesn't mean better.

Trav

I agree with you trav, but also the other points. We're still at the low end of the scale given the history of cars with race/rally in their past. Everything is going up. I had a mini, and the money for those now are pricing people out of the market, even those who just want a clean stocker..
Its going to happen with all older cars, demand outweighs supply...

It's a good job for me Sunny's are so unloved!

Well Trav sorry keeping up with the 1200 scene is killing you but it is a good time when old modified cars are pulling good money , we have the ridiculous prices of GT falcons to thank for that , but it is always a buyers market as well . If it was advertised for 35g's and sold then obviously the buyer was happy to pay , I agree if you like Starlets GTR etc for the money you would spend on modding your 1200 you can buy a mild late model and then spend bucket loads modding it too to your individual taste .The modified car scene in my opinion is that you build what you like it may not appeal to others but when people start knocking the other guy they are just bored .As I should have said more clearly before it is about expressing yourself individually I don't see us all driving SS or XR8 's same colour and same mods . Like I said good times for owning a classic car . I don't profess to my Datsun being my ultimate car I keep my finger in many diffrent pies ie: Ford's Rotarys My lexus V8 HR and so on I will never barrack for one team, My original goal for the 1200 was find the lightest RWD car and stick the biggest legal engine in and I wouldn't need to spend ####loads of cash on the motor as I would be ahead with the weight factor (well that plan flew out the window about 15 grand ago ) it is all about having fun just make sure you always enjoy yourself remeber it is a hobby a form of release to make you happy not bitter and angry. Anyway enough of this crap it can and will go on forever as everone will have their own opinions and they are entitled to it you don't always have to agree to it but respect their individualism ( is that a real word) and encourage . My most fun ever was my first 1200 coupe it looked like crap many people told me it was crap but it was mine and made me smile all the time , remember that fella's. The bloke has a magazine worthy car I know I would look at it . Imagine the crap you cop from hillbilly's about wrecking a good original HR and putting "jap " engine in one , it entertained me to no , end the anger in people spitting in fury talking to me at the all holden day , it was great fun do something cause a stir it all becomes free publicity so we are getting this guys car noticed in a way aren't we . So remember keep it clean no personal attacks on peoples opinions or pride and joy how's it go " just smile and nod". So do you still have the wagon Trav.

Nick.

Good, clean original ones that haven't been ruined are getting harder to find and sometimes people don't want the hassle of building one so they'll just fork out top $$$. Also I think a lot of the time people are just testing the mrket putting high price tags on them.
