I am looking at setting up my other coupe to rally in AMSAG events rather than CAMS. Put simply, it means I can use whatever engine I like as long as it can be registered in NSW. The difference is, that I want to stay in the less than 1500cc class.

Are there other options to the A14/A15 options. I am talking budget options here. Not 6k + to build a true race engine.

About a 100 - 120hp (at the wheels) from a standard motor would be adequate, Obviously I could live with more

Thanks
Damien

suzuki swift motor with seirra gearbox?
the g13b motor produces 100hp at the treads from stock and i believe they are very light aswell and the seirra gearbox will bolt up and is strong as

I like it. Have any members done this successfully. I just don't have the skills to be a pioneer

I have checked out the Suzuki forum and there seems to be plenty around (both gearboxes and G13b's).

Any other links greatly appreciated.

shouldnt really be any harder to dropping in a ca just get the motor box drop it in see where it fouls bash/cut n' shut that area make up new mounts for the motor and box you would most probably be able to get away with the h165 behind it so take your tail shaft get it shortened if you have to and get the seriea yoke put on while your there. then wire up the motor run the radiator hoses fuel line and whatever else and hopefully it starts haha if you lived up here in mudgee id be reall keen to helping you out!
i rekon a few good weekends of solid work and youd have it in running if you have the equipment around to do it all

No problems there, I am happy to drop it off and pick it up when you are finished.

The G13B motor doesn't produce 100hp at the wheels in stock form. It makes that power at the flywheel (74kw = approx. 100hp).
While not hard to see 100hp atw with these great little motors you will need to spend extra money to achieve your power goals on top of the custom fitting expenses.

No real suggestions on the engine front but you will seriously dig AMSAG events. We try and get to as many as we can and it is great rallying and everyone is super friendly. Looks like we might be in the same class, can't wait!

Thanks for the welcome. Looks like there is a problem with the G13B as it will put me in class U (a class for everything that doesn't quite fit, but still able to run) rather than class A which is <1500cc. The rule states that to stay in class A it must be a nissan engine with the same number of cylinders and of course be <1500cc.

hmmm, maybe that's why everyone is running A14's.

Theres nissan's cg13de which I think makes about 100hp at the engine, its lighter than an a15 aswell, but I only know of one thats been converted to rwd in a 1200 coupe rally car here in NZ. Unfortunately I also no absolutely nothing else about it. So you'd have to pioneer it somehwat. (gearbox wise) Although I imagine one would really wake up with a pair of 40's and a decent header on it. I can't think of any small capacity rwd nissan motors off the top of my head. unless perhap an L14? but the gains would be very minimal if at all over the a14/15
