Here is a list of NSW engineers that you could call and ask.

Non Turbo or N/A SR20 is the highest you can go in NSW according to my engineer.

A lot of the time people get N/A SR20's engineered and then put the turbo gear on them afterwards. Other times they just pay a lot of money to get a dodgy engineer to pass them or they just drive them unengineered. Or they use the commercial vehicle loophole

Ive done a bit of research on the rta site on this for my project. The way a 4 cylinder largest optional engine up to 1100kg tare mass is worked out as follows.

For Boosted motors-
Original tare mass in Kg (SEDAN VERSION ONLY OF THE MODEL YOU HAVE) x 2.5

So i have a 1000 coupe, but still go off the wieght of a sedan (which is lighter and bullsht).
A 1000 sedan wieghs 625kg, so 625 x 2.5 = 1562cc

That is the biggest boosted motor I can have. There are lots of other rules like need a demister, 2 speed wipers and if its more than a 45% increase on its original engine capacity you need a callapsible steering column. Heaps more, you should jump on rta site and have a read before you go ahead.
