g'day boys, (and girls)

i'm trying to put a later model a12 into my 1200 coupe, i made up some plates which fit it in and got her going, but if i wanna rego it, i've gotta get a frigging engineers certificate... i've been told that if i just drop in the ute crossmember, it'll bolt straight in.

1) is this true?

2) anyone got one for sale in NSW?

3) or anyone got a decent pre-'72 engine?

cheers,

liamoylan

Late model ute cross member will do the job, Dont know who told you you have to engineer the motor. If you haven't modified the cross member then it shouldn't matter and the Engine mounts would need to be made of 3mm plate minimum. There was a cross member on ebay for late ute the other day may still be there.

i had to use one of the earlier model engine mounts off my old engine, and one of the pre-existing mounts on the later model engine, which i bolted to plates (3mm steel) that i'd bolted to the crossmember.
then i took it to get blue slipped, and the mechanic said that the adaptor plates that i used to fit it in constitutes drive train modifications...

bastard!

i checked out e-bay, no joy.

You would need to weld the plates to the mounts on block then bolt them to the cross member that way they will look like there meant to be there. Maddat sell the late ute cross members genuine nissan $270 not sure if thats a good price but hey there not easy to find.

yeah, i figure it would've been fine if it was just a pink slip, but she's been outta rego a while and needs the blue... maybe i just need to find a dodgy bastard? hehehe

i'll put a bit more work into disguising the fact that they are there, paint the block and mounts maybe?

i'd prefer to just change the crossmember over though, so i'll keep maddat in mind... however being a povo student won't help, rego, insurance, and the member? no way i can afford all that! anyone got a cheaper one?
