I was under the impression that all A15s had double valve springs. I picked up an A15 motor today for the head only and I found it to have only single springs. Clarification required; Have I just paid $50 for something I can't use? Before you ask another member has dibs on the bottom end!

all a15's have single valve springs unless the head had aftermarket doubles fitted
doesnt matter if it has single springs just means the valves will start "floating" earlier in the rev range not critical unless its a worked motor and you like revving the tits off the thing

only the GX heads had dual springs stock. Even then there were only a production unit. If you wanna rev hard, just buy some aftermarket duals. Valve springs are an expendable part of your engine, and will need replacing once in a while if you like running your engine hard.

Be happy with a $50 oval port head.

That's a good price. Try and look for an oval port head and you'll get some ridiculous prices now, not sure what is going on but all of a sudden people are selling oval port heads for four times that price.

Anyway. No double valve springs, single springs were an issue on A15 standard engines.

Be happy with that price.

Correction: A15E engine came with double-valve springs. But, yes virtually all A15 have single valve springs. They are same as A14 head.

But they are not that great. Only good for 6,600 RPM. There are good aftermarket single valve springs that will rev higher than that.

Just remember to buy the GX or aftermarket seats and retainers for what ever dual springs you purchase.

My machine shop (I usualy do it myself) didnt install my supplied GX retainers and seats when I had them assemble my A15's head with Tomei dual spring, they just used OE seats and retainers, car was getting valve float at 6200rpm!
