Hey everybody, its been a while since Ive been on here. I got my dat back after 6 months or so of storage, long story.
Anyhow i fixed the problem and she's been running like a Swiss watch ever since. I got bored today and figured i better do some work on the car, so i decided to try and fit the race headers/extractors i bought a while ago. they are for use with side draught intake so they didn't quite fit, sooo i kinda...(please don't hit me) dented them in a little so my stock intake would fit.
Every thing bolted back up plates fabricated and time for a crank and it wont start. I have no vacum leaks im aware of( or none that i didn't have before).
It turns over but never starts, Fuel level in the carb window is kinda high, im wondering if this is because its pulling air in some where other than the carb air intake?
Or, is this due to the different flow characteristics of the race 4 into 1 headers/extractors. OR is this due to my caveman modification to the race headers.
any body have any ideas?

If you didnt close the header pipes completly that wouldnt effect starting that will only come into play at hi rpm. Even with a small vacuum leak you should still be able to get the motor running. If it an air leak its a rather big one! Good luck and keep us posted

ok so it turns out i have a huge vacum leak along the bottom of the intake manifold. I had a friend crank the car up and put my hand over the carb and there was no suction at all so i suppose that was the problem. That also explains the buildup of fuel in the carb.
ill fiddle with it later ths week, gotta go back to work :(. Ill have to make a gasket to let the intake manifold sit farther away from the head.

Happy to hear you found it! I hope making that spacer gasket works out. If you do it this way would you have thread left on the intake studs?

I should have enough thread left. Although I cant see the gap, i dont think its more than 2 or 3 mm at most. A couple of sheets of gasket material and metal duct tape outght to fit just right.
Or i could shave some material off of the intake air warmer flange on the bottom. Hmm, I could cut and weld it at school with our big syncrowave tig machine :)
