I run 4 degrees of positive castor on my 1200 that necessitated cutting the guards. The work was done by a panel beater.

You can see photos of the end result in my photo album.

I'm not sure of the url/link (if I find it I'll post it) but yes absolutely guys with wider/taller tyres, offset rims and or more positive castor (moving the wheel centreline forward to achieve it of course) have to trim the bottom 6 inches or so of the guard 'lip' about 1-2 inches forward of it's original location. You can basically cut, and turn the wheels (the trick I'd use is to put 2 pieces of plywood under each front wheel, with a liberal amount of grease smeared on their inner surface, like a 'sandwich' so they can spin easily. Then get a stockily built friend to lean on the front of the guard to simulate what compression/roll you might get on a hard corner with good tyres on a circuit, and measure and cut bit by bit.

I've just picked up a front air dam/spoiler, and had a discussion with the bloke I bought it from who explained this very thing and the typical amount that I might need to trim off it and the guard to make it clear with non std wheels and suspension/alignment settings.

shows what is done on an improved production racer, with 14 x 7 wheels

are a couple of pics I've gotten (I think from the forum, but not 100%) that I had previously saved on the hard drive.
