I'm about to get the parts needed for the following Electronic Dizzy swop: http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawi ... ectronic_Distributor_Swap

The only question I have regarding the swop is the coil. Can I use my stock datsun coil with resistor, do I use the stock coil and remove the resistor or do I need to buy a coil designed to work without a resistor?

If the last option is the way to go, have anyone had issues with a Bosch coil?

i had one of these in my car and i would recommend getting the bosch coil to suit electronic ignition ... I had a gt40t on mine and it carried on a bit but the recommended coil for the e15 is the electronic ignition one

ok, from what i have read from your posts is that the E15 dizzy will need a coil designed for a electronic dizzy.

So the Bosch coil it will be, will buy it with the E15 dizzy.

Thanks for the info

the little bracket that holds it to the block can be a bit tricky so get yourself a small round file

You can use the old coil with the resistor. There is no problem with doing this.

The 12V coil makes a better spark, and you can increase the spark plug gap for better combustion. But you don't have to do it.

the 'correct' coil to use is the Bosch HEC715. I used a MEC717 once & it worked for a while, then the engine lost power. Wouldn't even turn the tyres. Fitted the HEC715 & it was back to normal. You can use the standard N12 coil as well, or a series 2 Bluebird or the coil from a Pintara 8 plug engine, but not a GT40R. I can remember selling a 1200 coupe to Michael Boston (brother of John) as a replacement for a crashed car & they couldn't get the car to run. I even loaned them the distributor from my wagon. Turns out Michael just asked for a new coil at the local parts place & got a gt40rt. Wouldn't work with the dizzy.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

I picked the dizzy and coil up this afternoon. $54 AUD not bad in my opinion.

From the Tech Wiki: Using a 3mm pin punch, remove the roll pin from an A-series distributor. Remove the gear from the shaft. Do the same for the retaining ring on the E-series distributor.

I do not see any roll pins on the E series dizzy, anybody able to help on this one?
