I've used wire brushes before, in a hand drill. Get all the dirt & loose paint off, then hit it with a coat of Chassis Black paint. Comes up looking like new, with the added bonus that the inspector doesn't look too hard at the car, because everythings obviously new. All smoke & mirrors, I agree, but it also makes the car look much nicer.

its best to pull one part off at a time and strip it then paint n new rubbers has all the rubber busher's n ball joints shocks ect ect are worn out coz ya cars 40years old.
but you proberly dont wanna spend the cash so do wat the car yards do and hit the hole under carage with paint
