hey guys i have a datto 1000 fastback coupe it currently has a A14 with extractors and twin hitach su's. i want to keep it more original so i was wondering if i should reco a A10 bottom end and chuck the A14 head and su's along with a GX exaust manifold. will this work? i know su's can be a pain when not tunned for that particular motor. thanx

mild cam , might just be a screamer.. make it happen.. we've all talked about the A10 screamer.. but chickened out for easy options, won't have the torque of your 14 though.. :)

it would be cool but the a14 would be heaps better in my eyes. only cause it is bigger and would be able to produce more power.. but hey go for it dude. it would be awesome to see someone actually using an a10 for once.

How does extractors and twin carbs make the car more original than a stamping number on the block and the position of the distributor ?

Matt,

I actually like the original A10 for its fuel economy and honestly
feel the round port heads match it very well for a streeter.
Id like to see a high revving a10 but to make the 110-130hp mark
it will be an absolute nightmare under 5000rpm.

However I also like the a14 crank in the early a12 block idea
for keeping the engines original mounting and configuration.
The a12/14 hybrid will have a lower rod stroke ratio which will
boost intake charge at lower rpms and make it a better performing
road/street engine as it should shine at lower rpms.
This is what modern engines aim for to improve efficiency below
5500rpm which is which suits everyday use.

The early a12 should be your best bet for originality and enjoyment as
its an A series with the a10 layout and better 4 bearing crank.
