looking for some used coil overs of
a s13,s14, ect.
need to be threded all the way to the bottom
adjustable hight and pre load,
looking at modifing datsun stub axle to fit aftermarket coil over struts
so i need at least one used or rooted strut to moc up
or at least diamater of threded section

not sure what it is you are after???

the datsun strut (stanza 200b etc) is 51 or 52 diameter, it's detailed in the wiki

you can buy a coil over sleeve kit for these and fit quite easy

ebay ones are crap though

want to see if i can remove strut from cast section/stub axle
then thred cast section, then fit off the shelf coil over strut assembly
to treded cast section????

can be done, theres a link on ozdat somewhere, supafatto has it some where, i sent it to him ages ago

which stub axles were you planning on using? as i doubt 1200 ones would be big enough to work, you would most likely need to start with larger datsun stuff

if you just want measurements just go on ebay and ask one of the many people selling coilovers on there

mik pretty sure the link your thinking of they just welded the whole strut to the stub axle, didnt thread it to make it adjustable...not that i see much point in going to the effort of threading it to adapt it as you will have #OOPS# all adjustment available as they will need to be in pretty much as far as they can go to retain the amount of strength that you would need

The thing about the aftermarket coil overs is no two companies use the same thread size, or very few of them do. The cusco comp-s (rooted-s :P) I have for example have a really square thick thread compared to others I've seen with very fine threads. kinda puts a bummer on it if you wanted to change over to another brand that suited better.

But what about this Pigdog for example, say you had this done with fine threads and the strut was captive down to two inches, wouldn't the total contact area would be greater than the contact area of the two bolts that hold in a s13 upright to the knuckle?

availability of coil overs is huge.
other wise u need a strut,then coil over convert strut,fit adjustable inserts,
adjustable strut tops. Or screw in a compleat after market coilover setup
witch would be alot cheaper?
just need to remove strut tube and thred cast section
need to find a strut about 52mm to match up to cast stub
all thorts are taken into account
we all can make thing easyer

littledarkone, they would be fine if there is 2 inchs in, but then say you only have like say a half inch or inch at the most of adjustment before they are at risk of becoming weak. say if it was 51mm thread, you should have it in 51mm

tommo, its a good idea using the whole jap coilover, but i'd be more looking at just welding the coilover to the datsun strut, like cut the tube an inche of so from the bottom and join it there

thats y i need a rooted strut
maybe a threded sleave welded to strut
then screw strut into sleave[adjustable]
cast section could be threded about 55mm deep
strut could go thru cast section,just need to make thick
bump stear spacers so strut can also screw into spacers?
depends on length of coilover strut?
depends wether it needs to screw up or down to get right ride height?
realy need sample strut to look at?
allways fun trying to reinvent the wheel!!!!!
if we left every thing stock, wot fun would that be!!!!!!
