Grrrrrr,
I went for a drive with some friends up a mountain tonight as you do when your mid 20's and whatnot and after the up, down and some easy driving my F*(%^%&$ng motor got that "tap" again. I'm inclined to say Dazza is right again and my head is so soft it striped another pedestal bolt or worse yet a helecoil fixed one. I'm going to check it out tomorrow more thoroughly cos what else can the lord of the idiots do? my commodre is running but running crap so I need to sort that out before I take it on the road again and THANK YOU FORD FOR GETTING MY PISTON RING GAPPING FILE TOOL, you dirty lazy bum monkeys! 3 months and I'm still waiting for that stupid thing so I can gap the rings and assemble my A14 and pull this A12 down for parts or the 80 thou rebuild I've got parts for.
So please kneel down for the lord of the idiots >_<

Didn't you have trouble a while ago with the ruined rocker shaft?
Bad news but normally bad things are followed by good things. Perhaps there is some reparation coming your way?
How much did it cost to get the helicoil inserts.
Hope things get better for you.

I think Bondi did them for me for 160. So I've been checking over it this morning, the tic is still there but there isn't a loose pedestal bolt, all the rockers actuate meaning it shouldn't of dropped a cam lobe, there isn't any puddles under the pedestals indicating they're loose, the pushrods appear straight enough and spin freely when the piston is at tdc. The valve clearence is within about 1,2 thou for each other as I have them set at 12 thou.
I got a scare when I went to check no.4 valves, I stuck my magnetic stick in the combustion chamber and it went straight down!!! luckily I was on the wrong stroke so another couple of tuns and it was back to tdc. I'll double check valve clearance and adjust them but I don't think it'll make much difference.
Mabey it is something to do with the lifters, cam, rings, mains, water pump but it isn't as fast as the rpms it's as fast as the rockers and valves

dear Lord rofl, just take off the rocker cover and run the motor with oil spewing everywhere, at least u will know if your theory is right, maybe lay a few rags around first, as these have good oil pressure and make a fair mess.

I redid the tappets and tightened the rocker shaft bolts, not to any specific torque though. Still making the noise so mabey it's the valves cracking the seats or something? on a better note i've orderd the ring tool through repco and they say it should be here next week some time, that beats 3 months. If it's here before wednesday I'm getting all those assembly lubes and cements through them too for good faith

If you are going to keep ripping the tappet cover off; Just get an old one and cut the top out it stpos a lot of that oil splash.

that's terrible, the only reason it'd cut one up is for making a stacker hat for roller rockers! oil is s*^(y old and no doubt thinned out with petrol so mabey its one of the bearings that's cracked and showing an intermittent problem at 3000rpm.
