If you use hylomar, (Like on a head saver shim) they say to do it after the motor has been run up to temp for a sustained period, and then allowd to cool overnight.

If you use a "no-retorque" head gasket, you do not need to retorque it shortly after installation.

I have installed many, and never had a failure. Failures come from other causes, such as incorrect prep or incorrect 3-stage pattern torquing.

Of course it won't hurt to retorque, but it's better to do it right the first time.

Beyond installation, your Datsun owner's manual recommends retorque as part of a tune-up, every 12 months or 12,000 miles.
