Depends on the modifications. I think the car club needs to be certified in some way before it can sponsor club rego. The Sydney Datsun club does it. But there are strict regulations regarding modifications. So a fuel injected tubo beast will not pass the 'period modifications' restrictions.

just join a car club, you need to show your membership number, and car must be at least 30yrs old. doesn't have to be a datsun club either, can be Monaro Club, MG Car Club etc. as long as your a paying member with a membership number.

Cool, thought i,d seen Qld. mentioned somewhere.I,m a member of IPSWICH WEST MORETON AUTO CLUB last time i looked the club can do the paperwork for club rego.We have our own facility at Willowbank Park Champions way, next door to Qld.Raceway.
Google IWMAC for the website, all the contacts and forms are on there.

Cheers

Your car club rep still has to sign the car of as 'safe for the road' I believe...but I think it can be modified. (I hope so anyway as I would like to get club reg on the CA 1200 with a cage in it when it's done)

Thats right Mildman,i think it,s differant in most states, but up here if it,s over 30 years old you apply for"special interest" rego once your club rep has sighted the car he then issues you a letter stating the vehicle complies within the spirit of things along with relevent body and chassis numbers then off you go to waste half a day at the rego department.
It may be simpler if"down grading"from full reg to "s"(club)plate reg but you would still need the letter from the club.

Hopefully Melb is not much different to QLD, I imagine I'll find out in a few months.
