I have here a design for the rocker assembly pedestal that will allow the rocker pedestal to incorporate the head bolts on the spark plug side of the head. This will assist keeping the rocker assembly fixed and well grounded by using a second set of heavier duty (and better bedded) bolts.

I refrained from using the inner spring of my race springs for fear of the rocker assembly getting pushed off due to the comparatively weak rocker assembly bolts, this will hopefully help keep things where they should be.

The concept was first introduced by Janspeed. How ever this particular design was drawn and detailed by myself.

Hoping to get a price this week to get an approximate price per set. I'll get a set made for myself and see how they go.

Could I please have a show of interest?

Could I also have some input as to what material would be best for this application (alloy)?

Chris

Have there ever been problems with the standard setup? I have yet to hear of any one breaking a rocker pedestal bolt on an a-series. Have heard of threads stripping out of the heads though, usually due more to over-tightening more than anything else.
Looks like a good idea though, i'd say alloy would be the best choice, strong enough and easy to machine.

Mostly threads Aidan. I suppose you could install bigger bolts but this setup is most effective before any threads are ruined. Put it on and you'll certainly extend the life of the rocker assembly threads.

My GX head is a minisprint regurgitated special, flat as a pancake and about three good threads left (that includes manifold threads!) I'm all helicoiled out.

Basically I can't run my doubles as they'd probably just push it all up again so I kinda did this for my own situation and thought I ask if there was other interest for more sets.

These pedestals coupled with the bushed JB Roller Rockers would prove to be pretty damn reliable.

I lIke it.

The pad for under the head bolt could also be made a bit thicker for those running head studs (actually those that have the ability to get longer head studs, not something easily done with the std bolts), therefore increasing the strength.

At the moment they are three millimeters thick. I'd assume that with a washer on top of that and the additional support of the vertical metal shelf around it, it'd keep things strong.

I can certainly add a little more to it. The problem with existing heads is that the area around the head bolts is sometimes pressed down due to over tightening and age of the head. I'm not sure that these would sit too well if this top platform was not true. I suppose you'd remove the valve sleeves and surface mill the top of the head before installing these.

heya Chris, neat work, (what did you draw them with)
and back into the debate.,, I've never seen the stock pedestals and shaft fail, again the threads in the head are the weak point, I've seen some Japanese billet pedestals, but not using the head-stud... I'd go some of them for porn factor, :)

another thing to think about is is if you were to run the rocker shaft collars like some of us do it would be harder to position the pedastools to give them the right clearance, it was fiddly enough when I set mine up and I ended up doing it twice cos I couldn't drop the pushrods in afterwards

How about some sort of girdle across the top of the pedestals as well? Tying them together would help prevent flexing and stress on single bolt threads?

Could also include the collars to replace the springs into the girdle?

Now i take it that these are to replace the std pedastals.

Could i use these with my somewhat useless set of yella terra rockers that have no pedastals or shaft?

If so, id be keen too.

time-serts are the best fix for the damaged threads, Heli coils will do..
